OUR Approach

How we turn Sargassum into value

From feedstock preparation to ingredient development,
our value chain connects coastal partners, selective biorefining
and formulation expertise.

01 / START AT THE SOURCE

From a coastal problem to a valuable resource.

Sargassum has a role in the ocean. Excessive accumulations along coastlines are where the challenge begins.

Sargassum is our primary feedstock. Its chemistry is the starting point for our ingredient portfolio.

01 | Collect before it reaches the shore

Working with local partners, we source Sargassum collected from coastal waters before it accumulates and decomposes on beaches.

02 | Prepare close to the source

Local pretreatment of our feedstock and shipping preparations are a part of the value chain we are developing.

03 | Building value beyond collection

Long-term sourcing relationships connect coastal biomass management with demand for functional ingredients.

02 / UNLOCK THE BIOMASS

One feedstock.
More of its potential.

Our patented biorefining process separates valuable fractions from Sargassum. The aim is to make more of the biomass useful, while improving how we use chemicals, water and energy.

01 / PREPARE →

Prepared Sargassum

Feedstock quality and preparation connect coastal sourcing with the requirements of our process.

02 / SEPARATE →

Selective biorefining

A multiproduct process extracts and separates different fractions from the same biomass.

03 / CREATE VALUE

Functional Ingredients

Purified fractions become ingredients for product development, supported technical data.

WORKING WITH COASTAL PARTNERS

Coastal expertise.
Connected to our process.

Collection is only the beginning. Our sourcing partnership with Fundación Puntacana connects coastal experience in the Dominican Republic with our ingredient and process expertise.

We are developing a model that brings more preparation closer to the source and creates opportunities for local participation in the value chain.

03 / BUILDING IN PARTNERSHIP

Process expertise meets industrial know-how.

Our collaboration with Elomatic and CABB brings together the engineering expertise, infrastructure and operational capabilities needed to scale our biorefining technology.

Elomatic supports the engineering of our first industrial biorefinery. At Kokkola Industrial Park in Finland, our collaboration with CABB connects the planned facility with existing utilities and industrial operating expertise.
Learning from laboratory, pilot and demonstration work informs the design, with a focus on process efficiency, resource recovery and reliable ingredient production.

Across process development, we focus on chemical consumption, ethanol recovery and opportunities to reuse resources.

04 / FOLLOW THE IMPACT

Assess the whole value chain.

We consider sourcing, drying, transport, processing and product use together. This helps identify where improvements are needed and what evidence is required to assess environmental performance.

What leaves the coast?

Collected Sargassum carries nutrients contained in its biomass. Understanding the wider coastal effect requires data on collection practices, quantities and local conditions.

What does the process require?

Energy, water, chemicals, drying and transport all contribute to our footprint. Solvent recovery, process efficiency and feedstock logistics are practical areas for improvement.

What can our ingredients replace?

Substitution potential depends on the application, ingredient performance and the alternative being compared. Life-cycle comparisons need consistent boundaries and evidence.

How do we account for carbon?

Biomass contains biogenic carbon, but collection alone does not demonstrate permanent carbon removal. Our assessment must consider process emissions and what happens to the carbon throughout product use and end of life.
