“As we transition from pilot to demo production and prepare for our first-of-a-kind facility, transparency and accountability are more important than ever,” said Mari Granström, CEO of Origin by Ocean. “This report reflects not just our progress, but also the challenges and lessons learned as we are pioneering regenerative solutions for the chemical industry.”

Key Highlights from the 2024 Impact Report

This report is more than a reflection of our journey — it’s a blueprint for scaling regenerative business practices that create tangible environmental, social, and economic benefits.

By removing invasive sargassum, we reduce eutrophication, ocean acidification, and methane emissions, mitigating the devastating impacts on coastal ecosystems. This process actively helps marine biodiversity recover while creating valuable bio-based products.

IR-Article-3Developing a sustainable sargassum supply chain in the Caribbean is creating hundreds of jobs across harvesting, logistics, and biorefining. Our regenerative business model supports local entrepreneurs, fishermen, and communities, ensuring economic benefits extend beyond our operations.

IR-Article-2

Our biorefinery process produces high-performance, ocean-positive ingredients that replace oil-based, synthetic chemicals in industries like cosmetics, food, textiles, and materials science. This shift is accelerating the transition away from fossil-based raw materials.

Our zero-waste approach maximizes the value of marine biomass—from high-purity ingredients to using residue as sustainable animal feed, soil enhancers, and composite materials.

Looking ahead

In the future our focus remains on scaling impact:

  • Expanding our biomass sourcing and regional partnerships
  • Developing the Caribbean sargassum supply chain
  • Advancing toward our first-of-a-kind commercial-scale biorefinery in Finland
  • Strengthening our circular and regenerative approach across industries
  • Launching OCEANTHIX™ (Alginate) and OCEANBOOST™ (Fucoidan) to the market
